Life=FAQ's
What are Omega-3 Fatty Acids and why do we need them?
Omega-3 fatty acids are essential unsaturated fats that our bodies cannot synthesize by themselves; therefore they must be obtained through the foods we eat or supplements. While the Western diet of the typical American is high in omega-6 fatty acids, it is relatively low in omega-3s, and the body needs a balanced ratio of both to function at its best.
Why do I need an omega-3 supplement? What are the potential health benefits of omega-3 fatty acids?
Omega-3 fatty acids have been studied extensively by the healthcare industry and have been shown to help:
Reduce the risk of coronary heart disease
Increase circulation
Reduce blood pressure
Support Emotional Equilibrium
Anti-Inflammatory Properties
Anti-Cancer Properties
Improve attention and learning ability
Improved immune function
What type of fish are used in Life= Omega-3?
The fish oil in Life= Omega-3 is sourced solely from anchovies and sardines which are found to be a better source of omega-3.
Why are anchovies and sardines better sources of omega-3?
There are two reasons that small fish like anchovies and sardines are the best sources of omega-3 fatty acids: 1. Environmental Sustainability: Harvesting smaller fish is more sustainable because their shorter lifespan allows for their populations to replenish faster. 2. Less Toxins: Large fish contain more toxins (lead, mercury, PCB) than smaller fish because of biomagnification. Biomagnification is the process in which one large fish eats many smaller fish during its lifetime and slowly concentrates higher levels of toxins. Smaller fish are on the other end of the food chain and eat microalgae which are the original source of omega-3 fatty acids, therefore accumulating fewer toxins than larger fish.
Will I have fish burps when taking Life= Omega-3?
No. Life= Omega-3 is enteric coated so that it is digested in the lower intestine, not the stomach thus avoiding burps with a fish aftertaste.
What is ‘enteric coated’?
Enteric coating is a barrier applied to pills that preserves digestion until reaching the small intestine where it will be better absorbed. Stomach acids can reduce the health benefits of fish oil and sometimes cause fishy tastes or burps.
Does your Fish Oil taste like fish?
No. Life= Omega-3 is coated with a natural citrus flavor to provide a slight orange flavor.
Can fish oil be taken with other supplements?
Yes, fish oil can be taken with a wide variety of supplements; they are extremely well tolerated, natural, health promoting, and safe to use every day.
How are mercury and other toxins removed from fish oil?
Molecular distillation removes environmental toxins (mercury and other heavy metals, dioxides, etc), saturated fats, and other undesirable organic compounds. This leaves behind only the key beneficial components of the fish oil. Molecular distillation is a gentle process with exceptionally low heat residence time, and is performed in a vacuum to further reduce the heat requirement, which prevents the creation of trans fats.
